</b> What was it like for a woman climbing the professional ladder in Madison over the past 35 years? On this program, five charter members of TEMPO Madison, an invitation only, peer-to-peer organization that connects women leaders with diverse backgrounds, describe their journey and the challenges and insights they encountered along the way. As you will hear from these business-seasoned women, there is much to learn from the past.<br />
<br />
TEMPO Madison is celebrating its 35th Anniversary this month. When it was created, TEMPO’s mission was to support, empower and mentor female leaders to break down barriers and unite women executive within a single community. TEMPO has remained true to its mission, but the dynamics of change have expanded the numbers and influence of women leaders in the business world. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">For adolescents to be their healthiest, they need to engage in open, honest, and medically-accurate discussions with their health care providers. In reality, providers and teens don’t always speak the same language. PATCH (Providers And Teens Communicating for Health) is a teen-delivered education program targeting barriers that interfere with the ability of health care providers and teens to communicate effectively with one another about sensitive health topics - such as sexual health, mental health, alcohol and drug abuse or safety.</div><br />
On this program, you'll hear how PATCH works to address what teens want: (!) To know their visit will be confidential; (2) To not be judged or criticized; (3) To be educated, engaged and empowered through open and honest communication.<br />
<br />
Applications are now being accepted for Teen Educators. The only requirement for these paid positions is to be in high school by the fall of 2016. <b><br />
</b>“Hi, I’m Kathy Cramer. I’m a professor from Madison, and I study public opinion. May I join you?” These are the words Katherine J. Cramer used to open conversations in cafes, gas stations, and other locations where people gather for coffee in rural communities across Wisconsin. She then asked, “What issues concern you?” The purpose was to better understand how people think about politics and to uncover the understandings that make a politics of resentment possible. What she heard surprised her.<br />
<br />
</div><div>On this program, Kathy Cramer describes the deep urban-rural divide her research uncovered in Wisconsin and the elements that make up the rural consciousness which led to the rise of Scott Walker. The magnitude of her multi-year study is covered in-depth in her recently released book, <i>The Politics of Resentment: Rural Consciousness in Wisconsin and the Rise of Scott Walker.</i></div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7019377671348389257.post-6019598326226138222016-05-12T10:21:00.002-05:002016-05-12T10:21:22.561-05:00AT THE HEART OF HOSPICE<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgkFeBSDxkGaF6LY14la7ED9Pt0cYc4PSt-nP8gtEDvdyaiGXmXmG9jnVJKJUsYvBAR3nkZjWxt3KAF7Q-ofoyi0ltwmGcqXX2fTBUnql-LTtdRQzTTUSNXgARHjhxex05lFX8ZUa48kw8/s1600/Heartland+Hospice.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgkFeBSDxkGaF6LY14la7ED9Pt0cYc4PSt-nP8gtEDvdyaiGXmXmG9jnVJKJUsYvBAR3nkZjWxt3KAF7Q-ofoyi0ltwmGcqXX2fTBUnql-LTtdRQzTTUSNXgARHjhxex05lFX8ZUa48kw8/s1600/Heartland+Hospice.jpg" /></a></div><div><b>Guests: Carol Prothero, Regional Manager of Business Development; Ryan Klaustermeier, RN, Administrator - Heartland Hospice</b></div><br />

<br />
Hospice is a special way of caring for people with terminal illnesses. But when should a hospice evaluation be scheduled? Knowing when is a difficult decision, and many patients and their loved ones who care for them say they wish hospice care had started sooner.<br />
<br />
Do you have questions about hospice? What are the signs that may indicate eligibility? What is the hospice coverage provided by Medicare and private insurance companies? Does hospice care mean you have to give up hope? <br />
<br />
These questions and more are addressed on this program when Carol Prothero and Ryan Klaustermeier describe how customized hospice care can be and the range of services offered.Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7019377671348389257.post-55698837411826927622016-05-04T07:21:00.002-05:002016-05-04T07:21:56.229-05:00THE RAINBOW PROJECT PROVIDES HOPE FOR CHILDREN IN TRAUMA<div></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large; text-align: left;"></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;"> </span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiSYflN2HM4DRBYlFyNCEzYSim-NRPL3m-X4y81P1l1CpchZZf15pTL0Ao8NZLfvpHZqZ6QbyJYAOgrg4Tij05Ryd8E2oofs7BQtlE5xwzirUdJV5NhX08DTyR6qa6EZeqAQ0oCh6r1mE0/s1600/Sharyl+Kato.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiSYflN2HM4DRBYlFyNCEzYSim-NRPL3m-X4y81P1l1CpchZZf15pTL0Ao8NZLfvpHZqZ6QbyJYAOgrg4Tij05Ryd8E2oofs7BQtlE5xwzirUdJV5NhX08DTyR6qa6EZeqAQ0oCh6r1mE0/s1600/Sharyl+Kato.jpg" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><b>Guest: Sharyl Kato, Rainbow Project Director and Therapist</b></div><br />

The affects of stress, trauma, physical or emotional abuse in the home can live with a child throughout their lives. That’s why prevention, early intervention and treatment for children and families who have experienced some form of trauma is so critical. <br />
<br />
On this program, Sharyl Kato describes how the Rainbow Project provides restorative healing and hope for young children and families living with the negative affects of trauma and helps them build a foundation for the mastery of life sustaining skills. <br />

<br />
</b></div></b>Sexual intimacy among older Americans is alive and well. It’s just a subject we don’t talk about much. This silence allows misconceptions to flourish - including the widespread assumption that seniors lose interest in sex and are, or should be, asexual. According to leading researchers, that is far from the truth.<br />
<div><br />
Recently Melanie Ramey presented a lecture on Sexuality and Aging to a class at the UW Madison School of Social Work. On this program, Melanie shares her message on the importance and broad existence of intimacy in older adults lives and the need for family members and care professionals to recognize this. This open conversation covers the myths, barriers, dynamics, and benefits of sex as we age, and how the need for intimacy is ageless and should be supported.<br />

<br />
What is it like to live with epilepsy? One in 26 people know as that is how many will develop epilepsy at some point during their lifetime. Epilepsy affects over 3 million Americans of all ages. In America, epilepsy is as common as breast cancer.<br />
<div><br />
</div><div> On this program, Kristin Seaborg, a pediatrician, parent, and advocate for epilepsy awareness describes her experiences with seizures and epilepsy over 20 years. After a diagnosis of epilepsy in her teens, Kristin lived in constant fear that her seizures would intensify and prevent her from practicing medicine. She kept her condition a closely-guarded secret, leading a tenuous double life as patient and practitioner - until now.<br />
<br />
Kristin Seaborg chronicles her journey in her newly-published memoir, <i>The Sacred Disease,</i> with the hope that writing about her disease will build public awareness and decrease the stigma associated with seizures.</div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7019377671348389257.post-25329435997204651402016-04-12T13:24:00.003-05:002016-04-12T13:24:39.903-05:00THE UW ODYSSEY PROJECT: A GATEWAY TO OPPORTUNITY<div></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large; text-align: left;"></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;"> </span></div><div class=""><div class=""><div class=""><div class="" style="line-height: 16px;"><b class=""></b><br />

</b>What do Emily Dickinson, Martin Luther King, Walt Whitman, Shakespeare and Gandhi have to do with breaking down economic barriers that so many low-income adults face today? A whole lot, says Emily Auerbach, Project Director of the UW-Madison Odyssey Project and award-winning English Professor. Each Wednesday from September to May, low-income adults enrolled as UW special students in the Odyssey Project, gain a voice and a sense of empowerment through lively discussions of literature, history, philosophy, art and writing. They receive six credits through the English Department, and for many it is the launching pad for a college education or skilled career path.<br />

<br />
Empowering young people to create the future they want is the philosophy behind STAR (Save to Achieve Results) Credit Union, the only kids-chartered credit union in the world. STAR CU is financed entirely by Summit Credit Union and is housed in the Boys and Girls Club where members under the age of 18 can open a savings account with a minimum deposit of 25 cents and participate in financial literacy classes.<br />
<br />
On this program, Kristel Renn describes how at risk kids are learning about money management and saving for their future through their hands-on experience with a financial institution. Longtime member Kelsey Johnson, one of STAR’s exceptional savers, shares how having a savings account and being involved with the credit union operations have inspired her to plan for college and perhaps a career in the financial industry or teaching. <br />

</b> Are you looking for a job or considering changing jobs? Then put aside that resume you are working on and listen to this conversation with April McHugh to find out what the smartest and most effective ways are to find that next job. Experts guesstimate that 80% of all job vacancies are never listed. Employers have their own systems they follow to fill vacancies. <br />
<br />
On this program, April McHugh discusses how employers connect with job-seekers which is opposite to how job-seekers typically look for jobs. You’ll hear what works when looking for a job, and why an employer will hire you over someone else.Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7019377671348389257.post-62617229207676511842016-03-17T11:10:00.002-05:002016-03-17T11:10:40.239-05:00OH, MY ACHING BACK! Don’t feel alone. 80% of adults report lower back pain at some point in their lives, and 10-15% of all sports-related injuries involve the spine. Low back pain accounts for more lost person hours than any other type of occupational injury and is the most frequent cause of activity limitation in those under age 45. So, what can you do about it? What are the different options available to you? Medical procedures, surgery, medications, supplements, exercise, stress relief? What would work for you?<br />
<br />
On this program, you'll hear a comprehensive conversation on maintaining spinal health and the options available to you with Dr. James Leonard, UW-Madison Spine Clinic.Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7019377671348389257.post-83390803457595286662016-03-10T11:02:00.003-06:002016-03-10T11:02:57.843-06:00WHEN YOUR SPOUSE HAS ALZHEIMER'S: REAL LIFE STORIES<div></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large; text-align: left;"></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;"> </span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmioUyUziJqpNAFEEND1Hij-1_2GXn3XphruXK6tUfj9rwPwCy8GjBSIYgmtqbFZusK9Ec8pmXTa4a57C-MpXg6kq8LzmQl_gU32IfYpQsNgkvAWKl0noAI8aUxFSnYOoJ0vVJYYw7qAY/s1600/ADAW+Evening+to+Remember.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="221" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmioUyUziJqpNAFEEND1Hij-1_2GXn3XphruXK6tUfj9rwPwCy8GjBSIYgmtqbFZusK9Ec8pmXTa4a57C-MpXg6kq8LzmQl_gU32IfYpQsNgkvAWKl0noAI8aUxFSnYOoJ0vVJYYw7qAY/s320/ADAW+Evening+to+Remember.gif" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: left;"><b>Guests: Jack, Moira and Henry, Alzheimer's caregivers; Pat Wilson, Family Support Coordinator; Ingrid Kundinger, Director of Development; Alzheimer's & Dementia Alliance of Wisconsin</b></div><br />

</b>As the aging population grows, increasing attention is given to what people need to help them maintain their independence while assuring they are safe, cared for, and able to maximize their health and well-being. When is it time to bring in assistance in the home? And what are the signs that home care is just not enough, and it’s time to move to assisted living?<br />
<br />
Wendy Sulzer and Bonnie Banker face these questions every day from seniors themselves and family members concerned about the well-being of their loved ones. On this program, Wendy and Bonnie walk us through the art of making the right care choices.<br />

<b><br />
</b>Are you planning to retire? Then what? That is a question boomers are asking themselves as they prepare to move from a life of structured work to one with more flexibility and choice. As one source put it, “If the golden-years dream was the freedom from work, the dream of this new wave is the freedom to work.”<br />
<br />
On this program, Sybil Pressprich talks about how today’s retirees are re-envisioning their later life - one that continues to seek purpose, engagement and fulfillment. Rather than a life of leisure, boomers are exploring more flexibility, phasing out, working part-time, taking on limited-term projects, volunteering or starting a whole new career. But succeeding on your terms takes planning. You'll learn what you can do to make retirement “work’ for you.<br />

Back in 2010, Jane Nemke wanted to support the River Alliance of Wisconsin’s auction, so she went online to bid on something. One item particularly caught her attention - dinner with former Wisconsin Governor Tony Earl. Jane ended up winning the dinner and, at the same time, Tony Earl’s heart. They were married one year later, October 14, 2011. <br />
<br />
On this program, Jane and Tony share the story of their later in life romance. Hear them describe how they continue to maintain their separate passions - Tony Earl promoting clean air and improving quality of life in the Great Lakes States; Jane Earl as an internationally-accredited color consultant, harnessing the power of color in her clients’ work and home environments. Plus, don’t miss Tony Earl’s reflections on his years as Governor and the state of Wisconsin politics today.Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7019377671348389257.post-31500275382677711872016-02-11T11:59:00.003-06:002016-02-11T11:59:41.742-06:00ADVANCED CARE PLANNING COVERED BY MEDICARE<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9KIq3z0asKYhv_5gYTGK5BOPUvrVwuUDzaHKKphVvj24a_ta7eKpKlsJqkz9Fpb8xMi41HG1GzTNq3lVasqC24yRSB7bz5ccep7gsbglX9EwH2koTYeNlyxTcZyBc6YUAImj8GfSkGvk/s1600/Home+Health+United.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="177" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9KIq3z0asKYhv_5gYTGK5BOPUvrVwuUDzaHKKphVvj24a_ta7eKpKlsJqkz9Fpb8xMi41HG1GzTNq3lVasqC24yRSB7bz5ccep7gsbglX9EwH2koTYeNlyxTcZyBc6YUAImj8GfSkGvk/s320/Home+Health+United.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><b>Guests: Janet Bollig, M.S.S.W. and Outreach Manager; Laura Hunt, Social Worker, Home Health United</b></div><br />

End of life may be elusive, but it is something each of us will face. Now Medicare is covering the cost of physicians having the conversation with their patients to discuss getting the care they want and need, not only for the end of their lives but also as they advance with their complex and serious conditions. Home Health United is a provider of care in the home including hospice services and offers a continuum of care from skilled services to palliative care to hospice care.<br />

On this program, Janet Bollig and Laura Hunt update us on the life cycle options available for health care today to help us make educated decisions on the care we want and need throughout the entirety of our lives.<br />

It is one thing to be employed. But job security and advancement cannot be taken for granted in today’s working world. Managing a career is a lifelong process where an individual takes charge of directing his or her professional growth and success. It involves setting personal goals and regularly updating skills to ensure competency over the long term. The outcome should include personal fulfillment, work/life balance, goal achievement and financial security. <br />
<br />
Sound easy? Not necessarily so says April McHugh. In fact, it’s a relatively new concept to many professionals, but it can make all the difference in whether goals are achieved and sustained. </div><div>There is more to permanent makeup than meets the eye. Sometimes it is the simple solution to time-consuming daily makeup applications or dealing with allergies, smudges and mismatched brows. But in many cases, because of scarring, surgery, vision impairment, fading areolas, or the severe hair loss condition called alopecia, permanent makeup can move a person from the shadows to back to living a full and productive life with a feeling of greater self-worth and confidence.<br />
<br />
On this program, Tammy Stanek describes the breadth of current procedures customized to each condition or personal desire. Joining Tammy are Cindy and Melissa, who each had permanent makeup procedures for different reasons - one to wake up with makeup applied properly that doesn’t wash off in the pool or at the gym; the other after developing severe alopecia which took away her eyebrows and was spreading to other areas of her body. </div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7019377671348389257.post-86342522337633350582016-01-14T07:09:00.001-06:002016-01-14T07:09:08.679-06:00INTEGRATED EMPLOYMENT FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES WORKS<div></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large; text-align: left;"></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"> </span></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7oI6FJgYNIV5TxwHfqPbz0h7PHPTqyNqcuy5EsjOeXIjDMuvoF-1Ict9HCDEhyaHVEWGMZTxb0pP9BosNu5YmWlKq2XKOE-MCYj4oinqHar5JZbHclZEkwJNgUfkQ0cBIWEFSmvCQdac/s1600/Care+Wisconsin+Employment.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7oI6FJgYNIV5TxwHfqPbz0h7PHPTqyNqcuy5EsjOeXIjDMuvoF-1Ict9HCDEhyaHVEWGMZTxb0pP9BosNu5YmWlKq2XKOE-MCYj4oinqHar5JZbHclZEkwJNgUfkQ0cBIWEFSmvCQdac/s1600/Care+Wisconsin+Employment.gif" /></a></div><b>Guests: Elaine Leon, Integrated Employment Specialist, Care Wisconsin; Mike Jones, Care Wisconsin Partnership Member and Owner, Data Flow Solutions</b><br />

</b>Earning money, working with others who do not have disabilities, improving physical and mental health, depending less on social programs, gaining a sense of belonging, and contributing to society are just some of the benefits people with disabilities are experiencing through Integrated Employment opportunities. Integrated Employment refers to jobs held by people with disabilities in typical workplace settings where the majority of persons employed are not persons with disabilities, where they earn at least minimum wage, and where they are paid directly by the employer.<br />
<br />
On this program, Elaine Leon and Mike Jones describe how Mike has been mentored by his Care Team to build a successful and satisfying career. Care Wisconsin currently has about 400 members working in Integrated Employment.<br />

<br />
The Rim-to-Rim-to-Rim run/hike is a 48-mile trek across the Grand Canyon and back. Considered a must on the Bucket List of avid-runners, Jackson Fonder, dedicated long-distance runner, completed the arduous journey this past fall. He faced 10,000 feet in elevation change, major temperature swings and unstable conditions. With lots of time to reflect during the 14-hour double-crossing, he saw parallels in his venture to the journey clients at Catholic Charities’ Hope Haven are on in their struggles with addiction. There is no finish line on their road to recovery but a continuous path of ups and downs that eventually can lead to a healthier, more positive life. <br />
<br />
On this program, Jackson Fonder and Fran Augustine share parallel stories of determination, fear, support, setbacks and achievement. Why do some succeed and others not? What are the keys to removing obstacles that get in the way of reaching goals? Hear their answers on this program.</div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7019377671348389257.post-41224200430897812452015-12-23T19:03:00.001-06:002015-12-23T19:03:13.056-06:00A CONVERSATION WITH LESLIE ANN HOWARD: RETIRING PRESIDENT & CEO, UNITED WAY OF DANE COUNTY<div></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large; text-align: left;"></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"> </span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMSgyN-ByowJImGpaRLe0xjvVxwJ9L6eX4Fkt2rwnzvrK-N9N4nPZW0LB3ZuRWmIxHc6bLvvm_SVvxIzT7liX4GkDmGpBnllOAeezUVJ9W75h-k0cNCb60ii35qXqxUfOVBXTdTFnDM4I/s1600/Leslie+Ann+Howard.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMSgyN-ByowJImGpaRLe0xjvVxwJ9L6eX4Fkt2rwnzvrK-N9N4nPZW0LB3ZuRWmIxHc6bLvvm_SVvxIzT7liX4GkDmGpBnllOAeezUVJ9W75h-k0cNCb60ii35qXqxUfOVBXTdTFnDM4I/s1600/Leslie+Ann+Howard.jpg" /></a></div><div class="" style="text-align: center;"><b>Guest: Leslie Ann Howard</b></div><div class="" style="text-align: center;"><b><br />
