Guest: Donna Friedsam, Health Policy Programs Director, UW Population Health Institute
The full implementation of the Affordable Care Act is in its first year, and the deadline for enrolling in the health insurance marketplace is March 31st. On this program, Donna Friedsam, Health Policy Programs Director for the UW Population Health Institute, takes the conversation from there - explaining the deadlines, when coverage begins for whom, and what special enrollment periods are built into the Act. She describes the penalties and exceptions, what "keeping your plan" means, the options employers have for providing health care coverage, and the preliminary numbers of people who are moving from uninsured to the Marketplace, from BadgerCare to the Marketplace, and from uninsured into BadgerCare.
To apply for health insurance or BadgerCare through the Marketplace, go to www.healthcare.gov or call 1-800-318-2596 by March 31st.
