KEEPING YOUR EYE ON EYE HEALTH - so you can see the beauty of Orchids (for example)!

January is National Glaucoma Awareness Month. On this program, optometrist Dr. John Bonsett-Veal discusses glaucoma, often referred to as the "sneak thief of sight," and how early detection is critical to help preserve vision. He also describes other common and potentially debilitating eye conditions including macular degeneration, cataracts, and dry eyes that can compromise our ability to see the beauty of the world around us.

AVOIDING FINANCIAL SCAMS

No one is immune to financial scams whether they are via the mail, the phone or email.  Financial scams are getting very sophisticated says Paul Hoffmann. He warns people not to give out any account numbers, their social security numbers, or any other identifying information over the phone. Bankers encourage customers who receive letters in the mail or emails to bring them to the bank to make sure they are legitimate.

On this program, Paul Hoffmann describes some of the new and most popular scams such as the "grandparents scam" and the "lottery scam." His advice: "Think before you act, and ALWAYS ask for a second opinion.

Dr. Westman's central theme is his new book, Parent Power, is that the unpaid career of parenthood is more important for the health of our nation's economy than paid jobs. The facts are:

(1) Without parenthood, we won't have citizens;

(2) Without competent parents, we won't have competent citizens and workers, and

(3) Without competent citizens and workers, our economy won't prosper.

Dr. Westman describes how juvenile ageism permeates our society, and we are neglecting the critical task of ensuring that all newborn babies have competent parents. He suggests a path to successful parenting by implementing a meaningful Parenthood Pledge and a process to achieve parenting excellence.
